Established in 1984, the Auckland Youth Choir is Auckland's finest mixed-voice youth choir and is widely respected both nationwide and internationally. Membership is by audition, and is open to young men and women 18 to 26 years of age. Several members are also present or past members of some of Auckland's most successful school choirs and civic choirs, as well as the National Youth Choir.
Primarily, our goal is to achieve musical excellence, but we also take our commitment to the community seriously. AYC performs regularly in and around Auckland, sometimes in association with other choirs/orchestras, undertakes tours, broadcasts for TVNZ, Concert FM, Radio New Zealand and the Australian Broadcasting Company, and has made several recordings as well as featuring on a CD of New Zealand choral music. We also perform at the annual ANZAC Day celebration at the Auckland War Memorial Museum and Remembrance Day service at St Matthew's in the City.
AYC also values the social element of singing. Our members tend to stay with us year after year and build long-lasting friendships in the choir. We emphasize the importance of teamwork and responsibility in achieving results we can be proud of. This is why AYC continues to improve with every passing season.
