About the event
AYC hosts German choir Junges Vokalensemble Hannover for the Auckland leg of their "Down Under" tour in this joint concert: A Tale of Two Cities. In what will be the best of times, Junges Vokalensemble Hannover will perform a selection of music by Bach, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Ēriks Ešenvalds, Luke Byrne and more! Auckland Youth Choir will perform a short bracket before both choirs join forces to close the concert with joint items, including a waiata. Tickets are free but registration is essential.
Junges Vokalensemble Hannover was founded in 1981 by its artistic director and conductor Professor Klaus-Jürgen Etzold. The touring choir of 24 includes several current and former students of the University of Music, Drama and Media Hannover, but other professions are represented as well, and all singers are united in their wide choral experience and their joy in singing challenging works together. The performance of a wide range of a cappella works, some of them quite unknown, is an important goal of the choir. In addition to sacred and secular a cappella music of the 15th century until today, the choir performs cantatas, masses, oratorios, passions, and even jazz and popular music. In July 2023, the choir tours Australia and New Zealand with concerts planned in Auckland, Rotorua, Adelaide, Sydney, and Cairns. More information about the choir can be found on their website: Junges Vokalensemble Hannover
